Window washer seriously injured in hotel accident

NIAGARA FALLS, Ont. – A 26-year-old male subcontractor suffered serious injuries in a workplace accident at the Hilton Hotel overlooking Niagara Falls on June 2. According to a press release from the Niagara Regional Police Service (NRPS), the police’s communications unit received a 9-1-1 call at about 11:30 a.m. that day regarding a window washer who had been injured around the 53rd floor of the hotel’s North Tower. The NRPS casino-patrol unit attended the man on the rooftop of the tower, as did Niagara Emergency Medical Services, the Niagara Falls Fire Service and the Niagara Parks Police High-Angle Rescue Team. The NRPS did not specify how the worker had become injured, but media reports citing the Ontario Ministry of Labour (MOL) stated that he had fallen from the 53rd floor and his fall had been arrested. As the window washer was sent to a hospital in the Hamilton area, representatives of the police casino-patrol unit and the forensic-service unit investigated the scene, the NRPS said. The MOL is currently investigating the incident.
