Police arrest man for June taxi robbery

NIAGARA FALLS, Ont. – A 27-year-old man accused of attempting to rob a taxi cab in Niagara Falls last month has been arrested, according to a media release from the Niagara Regional Police Service (NRPS). At about 12:05 in the morning on June 25, a young man wearing a grey, hooded sweatshirt, a baseball cap and baggy jeans tried to rob a cab driver near Franklin Avenue and Taylor Street before fleeing the vehicle on foot. There were no injuries in the attempted robbery, police said, although the NRPS did obtain a photograph of a suspect and posted it online for public assistance. On July 7, NRPS officers arrested Michael O’Neil and charged him with one count of robbery and two counts of failing to comply with a probation order. The following day, O’Neil faced a bail hearing at the Robert S.K. Welch Courthouse in St. Catharines.
