Truck injures police officer during getaway

CALGARY, Alta. – An officer with the Calgary Police Service (CPS) was sent to the hospital with minor injuries after being sideswiped by an allegedly stolen truck on the morning of Sept. 8. At about 8:00 a.m. that day, police received a report of “car prowling” in the eastern neighbourhood of the city, according to a CPS media release. After a marked police unit pulled over a black 2009 Silverado truck in the area, one officer talked the male passenger into stepping out of the vehicle, while another attempted to do the same with the female driver. But the driver put the truck into reverse, knocked over the latter officer, collided with the officers’ vehicle and fled the scene, police said. The CPS is now searching for the driver – described as Caucasian, about 167 centimetres tall (i.e., five feet, six inches) and with dyed red hair – as well as the truck, which police believe to be stolen. The officers took the truck’s passenger into custody following the incident.
