Clothing-store employee beaten with wrench during robbery

HALIFAX, N.S. – The Halifax Regional Police (HRP) have arrested a 36-year-old man for robbing a designer-clothing store and assaulting one of its employees with a wrench. An HRP news release stated that a man had entered the Trove Boutique shop at 12:14 p.m. on Feb. 23, gone behind the counter and struck the worker on the back of the head with a wrench multiple times. The employee pushed the attacker off, but the latter took a cash box containing an unstated sum of money and fled on foot, police said. Emergency medical services checked the victim for non-life-threatening injuries at the store. After a police search of the area, a K9 unit found the empty cash box with a white hat and gloves; at 3:10 p.m., HRP officers arrested a suspect without incident. Charged with robbery and assault with a weapon causing bodily harm, the suspect is scheduled to appear in Halifax Provincial Court on April 6, police said.
