TSB issues update on investigation into crash that killed instructors

EDMONTON, Alta. – The Transportation Safety Board of Canada (TSB) has provided an update into its ongoing investigation into a fatal plane crash near Cochrane, Alta. on Feb. 13. At an Edmonton press conference on the morning of Feb. 27, TSB senior investigator Fred Burow revealed that the investigation team had finished examining and documenting the accident scene, transported the wreckage to the TSB’s Edmonton facility, requested the aircraft’s maintenance history and obtained most of the radar data and air-traffic control audio. The Board’s next steps will include examining the engines and propellers, studying aircraft maintenance records and pilot history, gathering more information on weather conditions, interviewing witnesses and reconstructing the events that led to the tragedy. Two flight instructors from Mount Royal University were killed when the Tecnam P2006T plane collided with terrain, about half an hour after taking off from Calgary/Springbank Airport; a post-impact fire destroyed the aircraft.
