Police release photo of man who allegedly attacked cab driver

KELOWNA, B.C. – The Kelowna RCMP is on the lookout for a man suspected of beating and robbing a taxi driver on the evening of March 27, causing non-life-threatening injuries. That evening, the cab driver picked up a male passenger in downtown Kelowna, drove him to the neighbourhood of Rutland and then returned him to the downtown core, according to an RCMP news release. When the cabbie asked for a fare of more than $45, “it is alleged that the suspect physically attacked and threatened the cab driver,” said Kelowna RCMP media-relations officer Corporal Jesse O’Donaghey in the release. “The suspect allegedly choked, punched and threatened the cab driver with what appeared to be used needles.” The attacker then stole the driver’s cell phone and fled the taxi on foot, police said. On April 3, the RCMP published a security photo of the suspect on its website; the image shows a slim First Nations man in a hooded beige jacket, jeans and a blue baseball cap. The suspect is believed to be about 170 centimetres (i.e. five feet, seven inches) tall, police said. Anyone with information on the suspect is asked to contact the Kelowna RCMP or Crime Stoppers.
