Building firm convicted after worker injured by falling trusses

SASKATOON, Sask. – A company based in Winnipeg has been fined $39,200, including an $11,200 surcharge, for an incident that caused a serious injury to a worker’s leg on Dec. 7, 2015. That day, an employee of Nu-Fab Building was hurt when trusses fell off a trailer at a worksite in the Saskatoon area, according to a news release from the Saskatchewan Ministry of Labour Relations and Workplace Safety. On April 25 of this year, the employer pleaded guilty in Saskatoon Provincial Court to failing to train a worker in all matters necessary to protect his or her health and safety, resulting in a serious injury. “Employers are responsible for ensuring workers receive proper training when they are hired, when their duties change or when new equipment is introduced in a workplace,” the release stated. An additional charge against Nu-Fab was dropped.
