Three men arrested for two spitting attacks on parking officers

TORONTO, Ont. – Toronto police have arrested three young men involved in two unrelated recent incidents in which Parking Enforcement Officers were allegedly assaulted by spit. According to a May 2 news release from the Toronto Police Service (TPS), the first incident occurred at around 6 p.m. on April 18, when a car approached an officer and two men inside yelled profanities at him. The driver threatened the officer, and the passenger exited the vehicle and spat on the officer before both fled, police said. On April 26 and 27 respectively, the TPS arrested 19-year-old Tiago Arezes-Reis for threats and 22-year-old Lucas Arezes-Reis for assaulting a peace officer. On May 4, the TPS announced that it had also charged Michael Bedard, 19, for assaulting a peace officer after he had surrendered to police two days earlier. Bedard is accused of verbally abusing and spitting on a parking officer at about 8 p.m. on April 28, after the officer had ticketed Bedard’s vehicle for being illegally parked. Both men named Arezes-Reis are scheduled to appear in court on May 15, and Bedard is expected to make his first court appearance on June 13, police said.
