Officers assaulted by drunken man who was concealing knife

WINNIPEG, Man. – A 37-year-old Winnipeg resident is facing numerous charges after allegedly assaulting two police officers while being taken into custody. According to a media release from the Winnipeg Police Service, two auxiliary cadets with the Service saw an intoxicated man drinking an alcoholic beverage in public at about 5 p.m. on June 11. When they tried to arrest him under the province’s Liquor Control Act, the man became agitated, threatened the cadets and physically assaulted both of them, police said. General Patrol officers eventually arrived at the scene and arrested the man, and a search revealed that he had been carrying a knife in his waistband. Uhanis Oliver Lotio has been charged with two counts each of assaulting a peace officer and uttering threats, as well as possessing and carrying a concealed weapon, resisting a peace officer, mischief, consuming alcohol in public and failing to comply with probation, police said.
