Two Saskatchewan employers fined for safety offences

SASKATOON, Sask. – Two Saskatchewan employers have pleaded guilty to violating occupational health and safety law and fined for separate, unrelated incidents, according to a news release from the province’s Ministry of Labour Relations and Workplace Safety. On March 14, Larry Ledinski was fined $2,800, including $800 in surcharges, in Spiritwood Provincial Court for failing as an employer to ensure that workers were using a fall-protection system when required and to provide appropriate head protection. The charges followed an inspection by an occupational health officer, the Ministry stated. On March 15 in Saskatoon Provincial Court, Kelsey Pipeline pleaded guilty to failing to ensure that at least one tagline was used to control the motion of a load that could endanger a worker while being hoisted, in relation to a Jan. 6, 2015 incident in which a steel beam knocked a worker onto a cement floor and injured his head near Dundurn. Kelsey was fined $40,005, including a surcharge of $11,430, for the incident in Saskatoon Provincial Court, according to the Ministry.
