CSSE to hold safety-info session for small, medium-sized businesses

BRIDGEWATER, N.S. – Employers in western Nova Scotia are invited to an information session, Building Safety Partnerships, which will focus on reducing the costs of workplace injuries for small and medium-sized businesses. Organized by the Western N.S. Chapter of Canadian Society of Safety Engineering (CSSE), the event will take place at the DesBrisay Museum in Bridgewater on May 10 from 9 to 11 a.m., according to a CSSE news release. The session will include a panel of representatives from the provincial Department of Labour, the Workers’ Compensation Board of Nova Scotia and local safety professionals; these panelists will give an overview of employers’ safety responsibilities and answer questions. Each attendee will receive a free Small Business Safety Toolkit to help develop a safety program. “Workplace safety incidents cost employers hundreds of millions of dollars every year,” the release stated. “The cost of a workplace injury reduces a company’s bottom line, and businesses cannot afford a reduction in profit margins.” Building Safety Partnerships is part of North American Occupational Safety & Health Week, which runs from May 7 to 13.
