Two Alberta employers charged last month for oh&s offences

FORESTBURG, Alta. – The Alberta Ministry of Labour (MOL) recently laid numerous charges against two companies for unrelated occupational health and safety offences, according to two separate, undated announcements on the MOL website. On April 12, McNabb Construction Ltd. was charged with 13 violations of oh&s law, eight of which contravened the provincial Occupational Health and Safety Code. These charges stemmed from a workplace fatality in Forestburg on May 1, 2015, when an employee was crushed to death by a gravel-crushing cone liner suspended by a crane after an attachment point slipped. The victim had started working with McNabb only two days before the accident, the MOL stated. Also facing oh&s charges is River Valley Crushing Ltd., for a serious worker injury at a Barrhead worksite on Oct. 8, 2015. That day, a worker was fixing the auger of a rock washer when the system was energized, causing injuries to the worker, according to the MOL. On April 21 of this year, the Ministry charged River Valley with six oh&s offences.
